The clinical experiences at Concordia University Ann Arbor offer you the opportunity to gain practical experience in public, charter, parochial or private school settings. Clinical experiences offer opportunities to apply the knowledge of educational theory learned in School of Education courses. These on-site experiences include classroom observations, small group interactions, and periodic whole class instruction. As required by the Michigan Department of Education, a minimum of 150 contact hours needs to be completed prior to student teaching.
The culminating clinical experience is the student teaching semester, in which the student, under the support and supervision of a cooperating teacher and university supervisor, takes on increased responsibility for planning, teaching, and managing classroom activities. By the end of student teaching, you will have gained the knowledge, skills, and confidence to take on the challenges of full-time teaching.
